05 Feb The A List: Love Is In The Air
Love it or loathe it, it’s almost here. That’s right Valentines Day is almost upon us!
But don’t panic. Whether you’re scrambling to do something extra special for that someone extra special or just want to spend a kick-ass night with those you (platonically) love the most, we’ve got your V-Day covered.
Show whoever it is you chose to spend February 14 with just how much you care for them with the ultimate kiwi night out – fish and chips and ice-cream on the beach.
But don’t settle for any fried potato and crumbed fish goodness, head along to Takapuna Beach Café and try their award winning takeaways.
Using sustainably line caught fish, the Beach Café whip up seriously fresh fish nightly.
What’s better, while you wait for your meal you can stroll the shoreline and a comical red lobster will buzz to tell you dins is ready.
Pack a picnic blanket and a sneaky bottle of wine, then wander round the corner to picturesque Thorne Bay to eat the much-praised F&C before heading back to the Beach Café for an after-dinner scoop of their incredible gelato. We can’t go past the salted caramel!
There’s something so romantic about sitting back and staring at the stars with someone you love. While any old spot outdoors will do, we think the Stardome Observatory and Planetarium is pretty cool place to woo your boo.
This year they are going all out and offering a Valentines Day package, which includes two tickets to a special planetarium show, a bottle of bubbles, chocolates and you can adopt your own star!
Love in the Vines
We don’t need much of an excuse to jet over to Waiheke Island for the day and what better reason than an idyllic vineyard lunch.
There are so many worthy locales on Waiheke but our top pick is Poderi Crisci.
Just 30 minutes from Matiatia Wharf, the small vineyard, run by a close knit Italian family, who offer incredible authentic fare.
Nestled amongst the vines and olive trees, everything on offer at the exquisite restaurant is delicious (the home made bread with their house olive oil and soft burrata cheese is insane!) but for Valentines, why not go all out and treat yourselves with the four course trust the chef lunch.
Each dish is also paired with a glass of their very own wine – that’s what we call a match made in heaven.
50 Shades of Love
The most hotly anticipated film of the year being released on Valentines Day is definitely not a coincidence.
For an adventurous night out head along to your nearest cinema to see 50 Shades of Grey and find out what all the hype is about. You’ll certainly have plenty to talk about on the drive home.
Light Up Your Love
Celebrate your love and the new Year of the Horse at Auckland’s 15th Annual Lantern Festival in Albert Park.
Event organisers are promising dozens of delicious food stalls amidst the hundreds of beautiful lanterns specially imported from China.
There will also be live music and plenty of space for a picnic on the grass. And if you really love it, go back the following night on Sunday for the spectacular fireworks finale.
