The A-List: Big City Breakfast Hot Spots

The A-List: Big City Breakfast Hot Spots

Breakfast is quite possibly our favourite meal of the day. You can have something sweet or savoury, hearty or light, yet always delicious! With the sun hopefully starting to peek it’s head out a bit more, it seems fitting we should be out enjoying it. Therefore, we’ve compiled our five favourite breakfast spots around the city, take your pick and enjoy!

Odette’s Eatery

Odette's Odettes

Odette’s eatery is a special little spot in Auckland. The third venture of Clare and Joost van Den Berg, they’ve definitely perfected the art of café fare. They’re well known for having a menu a little different – European flair and creativity mix well. It’s often a busy spot and very popular with locals, but it’s the perfect spot to unwind. We’d recommend trying out the Wild mushroom whipped Persian feta, donuts, basil and poached egg. Don’t be put off by the interesting combination of flavours – it definitely works!

City Works Depot
90 Wellesley St

Open from 8am

Goodness Gracious

Everybody loves a good bagel. It’s especially good when those bagels are prepared just like they’re fresh out of a New York bagelry! That’s exactly what you get at Goodness Gracious. This gem is hidden away in the big city, but it’s worth the trek. There’s lots of bagel options if you want to try something different – or more familiar too: Sesame, Plain, Wholemeal, Parmesan, Raisin and Gluten-Free. We’d love the Bene Bagel – eggs benedict and bagels, what could be better?!

2A New North Road
Eden Terrace

Open from 7.30am weekdays and 8am weekends

Bread and Butter Bakery and Cafe

Bread and Butter 3 Bread and Butter 2 Bread and Butter 1

There’s nothing better than the smell of freshly baked bread early in the morning, so where better to go than Bread and Butter Bakery and Café? They specialise in organic European inspired breads and pastries, from traditional German pretzels to crusty French baguettes and everything in between. There are a lot of alternative options as well, which is awesome to see from a bakery. Yeast-free, dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan breads are available, meaning there’s something for everyone.

34 Westmoreland St W, Grey Lynn, 1021

7am-4pm Monday-Friday
7.30am-4pm weekends

Jam Organic Café

Jam Organic 2 Jam Organic

Another awesome organic spot – right on the edge of the Hurstmere Green and just a short walk from Takapuna Beach, this is the perfect spot to grab something to eat before shopping or after a morning walk. Although everyone claims to have the best eggs benedict, the Jam Style Eggs are definitely up there. Homemade bacon hash, creamed spinach and an incredible hollandaise sauce… definitely one to try! If you’re after something else, Adrian’s Breakfast (pictured) is hearty and delicious; similarly the guacamole on toast is full of flavour and colour.

33-45 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna

Mon-Fri: 7am-3pm
Sat: 7am-3pm
Sun 8am-3pm

 Dizengoff 2 Dizengoff 1

Dizengoff is THE place to fill up in the morning in Ponsonby. The café is full of helpful staff, hot coffee and good food. Our favourite is the scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toast (pictured) – they alone are worth the trip! A classic interior, white walls and a simple layout means all your focus is on the food – just the way it should be!

256 Ponsonby Road

Mon-Fri: 6.30am-4.30pm
Weekends: 6.30am-5pm
