The A-List: The Brunch Breakdown – Brunch Hotspots In And Around Auckland

There’s no shortage of quality cafes around Auckland, all claiming to be the biggest and the best. We’ve handpicked a few of our favourites from around the city, so no matter where you are or are headed to, there’s the perfect spot to stop in and indulge.

Fact-Tree 1 Fact-Tree 2 Fact-Tree 3

Often known as Sunnynook’s best kept secret, Fact-Tree is worth the drive to, with patrons often hailing from all over Auckland. Meals are delicately plated and always look amazing. They use Supreme Coffee, which never fails to be full-flavoured and perfect. Regulars love the healthy portions, great atmosphere and vibrant colours that always manage to make every plate pop.  We love the blueberry pancakes and cute smoothies and frappes!

Little and Friday

Little and Friday 1 Little and Friday 2

Little and Friday is an iconic spot on the Shore and deservingly so! The interior is sleek and chic and the Supreme Coffee is always on point. We love the toasted coconut bread, but the cabinet is also full of tasty treats. Good luck going past their doughnuts though! They alone are worth the trip.

St Heliers Bay Café and Bistro

St Heliers Bay

Constantly making the cut for Metro’s top cafes, St Heliers Café and Bistro is somewhere to make a special trip to. The view of Rangitoto is almost as exceptional as the Allpress Coffee and seasonal menu. The hotcakes with salted toffee, apple and mascarpone are amazing, as are the smashed eggs which are interestingly paired with brussel sprouts, broccolini, mint and almond – but it works! Plenty to choose from and very knowledgeable staff.

The Apothecary

Apothecary 1

This cute spot mixes quality food, good coffee and antiques in this café-restaurant-antique-emporium fusion. The menu is seasonal, but always full of tasty treats. The French toast is a must!

Carriages Café

Carriages Café is nestled away in rural west Auckland and will take you back in time. A classic 1930’s European train is not only the namesake, but also the primary seating area, filled with booths and surrounded by the lush Kumeu countryside. If you’d prefer some fresh air the decking area looks out over a quaint lake full of ducks. Along with the gorgeous setting, Carriages is well known for their tasty fare. Along with your usual eggs benedict, hot cakes and BLAT, we love the hash brown tower – an icon in itself! The Cajun chicken salad is always a winner if you’re in for lunch.

Luscious Food Store

Luscious 1 Luscious 2

The Luscious Food Store’s café has a cabinet full of amazing wraps, rolls, sandwiches and cakes, along with an array of fresh homemade pies. There’s plenty to choose from and the menu is similarly bursting with flavour. The tasting platter is a gorgeous selection of finger food, otherwise the rosti stack with citrus, feta and avocado is to die for!

Ruby Red

Ruby Red is a café gem in South Auckland.  The décor is retro a stylish, making for a very quaint spot. Staff and friendly and efficient which always makes for an awesome experience. We love the mince on toast! If you’re on the run though, the homemade pies and savouries are super yummy.

30B Coronation St, Mangere Bridge

Auckland 2022

Orvieto 2 Orvieto 1

Orvieto is fast becoming a very popular spot in the Mt Eden area. Definitely worth the wait; staff are especially speedy and efficient so if there is a wait that won’t even be long! As with any namesake dish, the Orvieto bene is a must, as is the Orvieto hash brown. Crispy on the outside, soft and piping hot on the inside with eggs, bacon, roast tomato and aioli on the side!

935B Mount Eden, Three Kings, Auckland

Rosie 2 Rosie 1

Rosie is another top ranking café in Auckland, which is not surprising as it makes up Hip Group’s armada of quality cafes and eateries. The smoothies are fresh and super filling, the superberry and flaxseed is the perfect way to start your day.  The keffir fermented oat porridge with tamarillo and chis seed crisp is bursting with antioxidants and other good things! Potentially inspired by Dr Seuss’ green eggs and ham, the green eggs benedict is always a winner!

Scullery 2 Scullery 1

Scullery is the new kid on the K Road café block. They are have a zero wastage policy and all packaging is recycled, composted or biodegradable.  The toasties are amazing and full of gourmet and tasty ingredients. The coffee is also strong and rich and the cups are amazing!
