11 Sep The A List: Top tips For Spring
Spring is upon us, even though it may not feel like it in Auckland some days! Don’t let the rain and grey clouds get you down though, spring is the perfect season to get out and about and explore this gorgeous city. We’ve compiled some of the best spots to check out at this time of year and some handy tips and recommendations for the season!
Spring is the season of new growth so what better way to experience this first hand than at the Auckland Botanic Gardens? There are events, activities and displays to check out all the time, we love the weekly Wednesday Walk – a free, guided tour that gives you the opportunity to learn a thing or two while also absorbing the natural beauty of the Botanic Gardens.
Boric Food Market
The only thing we love more than fresh flowers is fresh fruit and vege. If you’re craving something more than just the typical supermarket experience, head to Boric Food Market in Kumeu and check out the fresh produce yourself. This third-generation family owned artisan food store is an incredible spot looking out over the 85-acre orchard, which also looks gorgeous this time of year! Products are sourced from the on-site orchard and gardens, and both local and carefully selected international suppliers. Fresh produce, gorgeous home wares and a gourmet delicatessen make for the perfect one-stop shop. We would recommend grabbing a hot cup of Kokako coffee from the deli or if you’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth then the Lewis Road Hot Chocolate is also a must.
In keeping with good food and good weather (hopefully!) the La Cigale French Market is the place to be every weekend. This French-style farmers market, has been voted Auckland’s Best Food Market by Metro Magazine for the last 8 years, so if you haven’t been Spring 2015 is definitely the time to do so! Fresh bread and hot patries, pate, flowers… what more could you want?
The highlight of spring in the big, little city is the Diwali Festival in mid-October. This festival celebrates the diversity of culture and heritage within Auckland in a unique, fun environment that explores the many facets of Indian culture.
Growth is a big part of spring, so it makes perfect sense to take the opportunity to grow as a person too by exploring the diverse cultural and artistic scene in Auckland. Here are a few that we’d recommend:
CATS the Musical at The Civic
- CATS is one of the longest running shows in the West End and on Broadway and deservingly so! This show is entertaining, moving and a classic that you have to see at least once. It’s even suitable for those that aren’t crazy cat ladies!
Guys and Dolls presented by Auckland Theatre Company
Another classic show full of dancing, singing, pizazz and flair. Guys and Dolls has been gracing stages around the world since 1950 and the themes in it still hold true in today’s modern world. A great little light-hearted escape
